Currently touring in support of Dirty Projectors, the Canadian duo will embark on a headlining tour next week tour dates below the video. ‘Fineshrine’ is the lead single off the group’s 4AD debut Shrines, due out on July 24. Director Young Replicant capably interprets vocalist Megan James’ lyrics without being too on-the-nose half the fun of Purity Ring is the childlike wonder she imbues with pretty brutal imagery (“cut open my sternum and poke / my little ribs around you”). Toying with themes of death and rebirth, memory and memorial, ‘Fineshrine’ is slowed and cinematic. I would definitely recommend seeing Purity Ring as their tour continues, and felt as though I got more than my money’s worth.Purity Ring makes eery, disarming “future pop,” and the video for ‘Fineshrine’ is no different. Get a little closer FO Glide up in my sternum and hold My little ribs around you Those arms may be under, under you I’ll take the South pockets gladly Over the rocky cliffs that you leave To come over, not forget where feet are spreading threads of thunder under me. Ritual was completely packed, and the audience was very energetic and engaged in the performance, and almost everybody was dancing. Overall, it was a really fun night, and it was great to see how each act built on the energy of the audience. isn’t trying to capitalize on some moment where rapid hi-hats and deep bass mix with dream. This is always good to hear in a live performance. There are some moments on Shrines where Purity Ring falls back on some of witch-house’s less-lovely tendencies, but those moments are entirely forgivable, given the totality of vision and the strength of execution throughout the rest of the record. Roddick mixed the songs slightly differently, adding drum beats or building the song in a more dramatic way than on the recording. The band kept their sound fairly loyal to their album Shrines throughout the concert, and the band definitely delivered exactly what I had expected. Although it is not a direction I would like to see the band go in in the future, seeing them play a more pop-leaning song was interesting. Live however, the song was engaging and actually emotional, with James singing the line “Am I not good enough” like a question to the audience. One of the night’s highlights was the band’s cover of Soulja Boy’s song “Grammy.” The band released a recording of this cover on their website earlier this year, and I found the song fairly lacklustre. The crowd’s energy was mirrored by James hopping around the stage and beating an oversized drum, with Roddick nodding along behind his equipment. The band played around 10 songs, including some obvious crowd favourites such as “Fineshrine” and “Belispeak,” and my personal favourite, “Lofticries.” While playing these crowd-pleasing songs, Purity Ring was clearly in their element. Purity Ring was an immediate crowd-pleaser. The ethereal glowing lanterns and smoke all made for a fitting visual atmosphere for the group’s dark soundscapes. As the fog dispersed, it became clear that Roddick was actually striking the lanterns, to make them glow and emit a bell-like chiming. As Corin Roddick, the band’s producer became visible, so did a number of glowing paper lanterns around him. Megan James, the group’s singer, became visible as the beat to their first song kicked in. After the band’s equipment was placed on stage, smoke filled the air. It was a pleasant surprise.Īfter Blue Hawaii, the anticipation for Purity Ring was incredibly high. This high-energy set was very different from what I had expected from Blue Hawaii. Standell-Presto’s distinct, high vocal style soared above Alex “Agor” Cowan’s production, which was dynamically louder than on any of their releases. Any trace of timidity was immediately shed as Blue Hawaii played a set of strongly beat-based dance songs. Fineshrine lyrics: Get a little closer FO Glide up in my sternum and hold My little ribs around you Those arms may be under, under you Ill take the South. Singer Raphaelle “Raph” Standell-Presto appeared cutely shy at first, asking the crowd if they want a quiet set or if they want to dance. Their set was about a half hour long, and unfortunately most of the crowd paid them little attention. The band’s style was reminiscent of John Maus, although with considerably less energy. There is very little information available about the duo, who craft low-key electronic songs. The Montreal electro-pop band Purity Ring brought two openers along during its April 2 concert - spaceandtime and Blue Hawaii, both of which share a similar style. They move through a dark alleyway searching for cover as elsewhere in the city the Face of Boe has sensed their arrival. Inside the TARDIS the Doctor decides to extend his initial invitation to Martha of only taking her on a single trip deciding to take her once into the past and once into the future before finally taking her home. I'm working on an MQTT solution with Mosquitto and Node Red (on a Raspberry Pi) and it will also require some Groovy on SmartThings but a much simpler solution IMO. SmartThings is going to be moving in another development platform direction as well at some point. Because there was C++ code on the MySensors side of things and then Groovy on the SmartThings side it just seemed like a brittle integration with the design and how I wrote the code. I felt like the custom transport would require more maintenance and I wanted more of any option that was configuration rather than coding. After writing the transport and using it for a bit I've decided to go another direction with the integration to SmartThings. There doesn't seem to be a ton of interest in this but I wanted to provide an update. This way I don't have to worry that I created too small a VM disk, or that the VM will later outgrow the disk size that was originally allocated for it. So, having proved that to myself, I'll pass on the tip: I now create a VM's disk to be as large as I can imagine it would ever need to grow, and then I let the thin-client mechanism maintain the true size of the virtual disk to be only as large as what is actually necessary. So, I did the experiment, and it turns out that is true if the ProxMox dataset isn't configured as "thin-client" or if automatic file compression isn't turned on, but fortunately the true size of the raw file does indeed shrink down if those two conditions are enabled. Originally I was concerned that because, if using ZFS as the file system, ProxMox only allows storing a VM as a pre-allocated "raw" file (rather than as a qcow2 file as ProxMox would if ProMox were using a linux ext16 file system instead of ZFS) that the file would take up enormous space even if the raw file (i.e. So, in total, four things need to be set correctly for it to work optimally. So, those two things plus the ssd emulation that you mentioned, and of course automatic file compression like lz4 needs to be enabled. Also the ProxMox dataset that the VM is saved on needs to be set to thin-client. Looking into this, I think checking the "Discard" box on the "Hard Disk" tab of the "Create a Virtual Machine" dialog box inside ProxMox may automatically accomplish the same thing. You can also use the command line tool fstrim to manually discard unused data. It's a bumpier ride at least at first but i think homeassistant wins in the long run - and it's open said in Best PC platform for running Esxi/Docker at. Actually used and appretiated by everyone in the house Is has integrations for more or less everything and if not there will be soon or you can add it yourself.Įxample dashboard that i have in the house with car heating/charging, cameras and tons of sensors and zigbee devices. For my personal homeautomation i have moved over completely to homeassistant and it's possible to create beautiful dashboards with little effort. It has a very active community that isn't afraid of changing core concepts when needed which is both a strength and sometimes a weakness. Very light weight.Īnother alternative (maybe obvious) is homeassistant but it might be a bit overwelming since it's very flexible and can be run in so many different ways so you will find tons of howtos that doesn't work anymore. I have a few weather station systems running remote and then i use domoticz in docker containers on off site servers (but i've also had it running on rasberry PIs). The UI is not the prettiest (even if you can fix that by setting up custom dashboards like dashticz or so) but it's very functional and i think it has a good default setup with trendlines per sensor for day/month/year using highcharts. If you want the fastest way to get started with good trend charts i still think Domoticz is a great choise. I think i've tried them all in the table but i always return to 2 alternatives: homeassistant and domoticz. Normally i don't give advice like this (and i agree with - It's great to discuss with a friend!) but here a my 2 cents. Selecting the "right" controller is of course a matter of opinion and depends how far you want to go into the homeautomation swamp. |
